Many members of the Mustang Nation gathered together at Overton high school Sunday evening to show their love and support for Cristian (Macho) Rodriquez. They prayed together, and wrote cards and letters to their beloved Macho.
The latest update from family was communicated around 4:00pm earlier Sunday afternoon. That information is published below:
Everyone has been asking about Cristian Rodriguez.. and I just wanted to give an update.. there has been ALOT (more than we could ever imagine) that has been going on and that has happened these last few days.. but I’m going to keep it as short as possible and to the point.
Friday night Cristian was headed home and was in a single car accident.. he was found about an hr after the wreak and life flighted to Tyler from Overton at about 1045. I received the call from the hospital at 11:20.. he wasn’t conscious when he arrived at the hospital. Since the accident he hasn’t been able to feel or move his bottom half.
Because of how severely damaged his spine was, his neurosurgeon recommended immediate surgery so that’s what was done. It was successful in so many ways but it’s not a complete fix. By no means is he out of the woods. Cristian has a long road and many speed bumps ahead. Fortunately, he did have a weak signal that was detected from his feet to his brain immediately after surgery. This morning he was able to move his toes on command. But since then he has not been able to feel or move anything from the waist down. This could be from swelling after his back surgery. Which was expected. The dr told us to expect swelling around the spinal cord which could cause the nerve to be pinched off again and the signal not having the possibility of getting to the brain. We will test him everyday and pray it’s just swelling and that the treatments for the swelling helps!
Hes no longer intubated! He is awake and speaking with us! He is moving his arms up and down and even passed his swallow test today!We weren’t sure if his damaged lungs were going to be able to function properly on their own but they are and we couldnt be more thankful and also more proud of Cristian’s strength!
We thank everyone for the prayers and calls and text!! We know Cristian is making progress because of y’all’s love, support and prayers!
We ask for NO VISITORS for a while. Cristian can’t afford to get sick or get an infection. He needs a lot of rest right now and we don’t want to take any steps backwards. Because of how fragile he is right now, any step back is a big one.
For now all we can ask is to please keep praying! Pray for Cristians soul, his mental health, his body to do what it needs, the nurses and doctors, and his family! There is no prayer that didn’t get heard this weekend! God touched him and saved him for us because of your prayers!!

I will try to update again sooner than later.. but only as needed.. we can’t rush things so we will be patient and just take it a day at time. Miracles can’t be rushed and neither can Cristian!
